In H1 2007, a total of Br19.1 billion was invested in the region, of them 25.8% or Br 4.9 billion was own funds of companies. Budget funds accounted for 32.5% or Br 6.2 billion.

Some 58.3% of the total investments was funneled into construction and assembling works, 41.7% was used to buy machines, equipment, vehicles, implements and tools.

Some manufacturers are currently implementing upgrade programmes.

In 2007, Lepel Electromechanic Works reconstructed a boiler house. Two boilers were converted to run on local fuels and chips. Lepel Concentrated Milk Factory has been upgrading its production facilities under the investment project “Reequipment of Lepel Concentrated Milk Factory”. The first stage (2005-2006) of the technical upgrade project worth of Br3.3 billion was completed in Q1 2007. Some ?3.2 million of investments will be allocated into the second stage of the project (2007-2008).

Lepel Bread-Baking Plant, an affiliate of the republican unitary production company Vitebskkhlebprom, has replaced virtually the whole technological equipment. Besides, in 2008-2010 the company intends to launch the production of soft drinks.

The first phase of the construction of the utility Vodosnabzheniye with the capacity of five thousand cubic meters of water per day is coming to an end. The second construction phase will be launched in 2008.

In 2008, a hotel will be built in Lepel. An agro-town will be erected in the village of Chereischina.
