30.03.2016

The Slovak Republic intends to take an active part in the 25th edition of the International Festival of Arts Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Belarus Jozef Migas said as he met with Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev, BelTA has learned.

"The Days of Slovakia were held in Vitebsk in 2014 and 2015. This year, we also intend to participate in the festival. Our participation can roughly be called "Slovak Days. Vitebsk 2016," the Ambassador said.

Nikolai Sherstnev supported the proposal but suggested revising the name a bit. "We'd better call it 'A Slavonic Papillion of Slovakia.' This will be an expo where you will be able to present your culture, cuisine, and goods," the Vitebsk Oblast Governor said.

Jozef Migas also suggested one more initiative. "We would like to see our artist who performed in La Scala to sing in the closing gala of the festival," the diplomat said. He also stressed that Slovak businessmen and officials intend to visit Vitebsk during the festival time to discuss specific cooperation projects.

The areas of possible cooperation were also on the agenda of the meeting. It was noted that the most promising areas of cooperation are energy, mechanical engineering, woodworking, pharmaceutics, agriculture, light industry, tourism and recreation.

After the meeting in the regional administration, the diplomat visited Vitebskenergo to discuss the construction of hydroelectric power plants on the Western Dvina River and OAO Vitebskdrev to discuss possible deliveries to Slovakia.
