Belarusian Interior Ministry to start developing national migration policy concept in 2017

The Belarusian Interior Ministry intends to start working out a national migration policy concept in 2017, BelTA learned from the Ministry's website.

An international meeting of experts is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 7-8 December to discuss migration and shelter matters. As the agency in charge of coordinating the operation of government agencies in migration affairs the Belarusian Interior Ministry intends to start working out the concept of the national migration policy in 2017. The experience and recommendations from foreign colleagues could be used as the basis for further understanding of how to proceed in this field.

During the meeting Deputy Interior Minister Nikolai Melchenko is expected to represent the Ministry. Representatives of competent agencies of Belarus will also take part in the meeting as well as representatives of the European Union member states, the Eastern Partnership Initiative participating states, international experts from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Moldova, Ukraine, and Hungary. Representatives of international organizations such as the International Organization for Migration and the International Center for Migration Policy Development are also expected to participate in the meeting.

Participants of the meeting will discuss international aspects and modern trends in the development, adoption, and implementation of migration strategies. They will also share their experience and the best national practices.
