Belarus’ CEC prepares for presidential election

MINSK, 8 September (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus is actively preparing for the forthcoming presidential election, BelTA learnt from Secretary of the Central Election Commission Nikolai Lozovik. “The Central Election Commission is now very busy preparing for the forthcoming presidential election. All the draft documents that can be prepared now, before the election date is announced, are in progress,” the CEC representative said. In his words, the guidelines for territorial and district election commissions are almost ready as well as almost all the draft resolutions CEC should adopt to conduct the election campaign. A reminder, the elections of the President of Belarus are announced by the House of Representatives, in line with the Constitution and the electoral law. According to the legislation, presidential election is called not later than five months and conducted not later than two months before the completion of the term of the incumbent president. It means that the forthcoming elections should be held before 6 February 2011.
