Belarus plans to attract $400m from EDB for economic projects

MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) - Belarus plans to attract $400 million from the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) to implement economic projects, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Guryanov said at a session of the House of Representatives when introducing a bill to ratify the agreement on the terms of residence of the Eurasian Development Bank in Belarus, BelTA has learnt. According to him, Belarus and the Eurasian Development Bank are implementing projects worth more than $300 million. “In the future we are planning to attract additional funds from the Bank to the tune of $400 million mostly for infrastructure projects, development of industrial cooperation, trade and economic cooperation,” Alexander Guryanov said. He added that the Bank not only finances projects in Belarus but also provides credit support to promote Belarus’ products to the markets of other States which are parties to the bank. On 12 May MPs ratified an agreement on the terms of residence of the Eurasian Development Bank in Belarus. It provides for benefits and privileges to the Bank, as well as immunity for its property, assets and employees.
