Sergei Sidorsky: Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus should intensify cooperation with ILO

MINSK, 25 August (BelTA) – The Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus should intensify the cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO), Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky told as he met with officials of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus in Minsk on 25 August, BelTA has learnt. Over the recent ten years the Belarusian Government has been engaged in a complicated dialogue with ILO concerning the observance of trade unions’ rights in Belarus. In recent years Belarus has achieved more objective attitude of ILO towards this problem. At the same time, the main problem has not been settled yet: the European Union did not restore the customs preferences for Belarus within the framework of the European Union’s Generalized System of Preferences that were suspended in 2007. According to the Premier, the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus could use its ties with international and national trade unions’ centers to have an influence on the negotiation process and help the Belarusian Government settle this problem with ILO.
