UK to carry on recuperation programs for Belarus’ children

VITEBSK, 22 October (BelTA) – About 3,000 Belarusian children go on recuperation trips to Great Britain every year, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Belarus Rosemary Thomas told BelTA on 22 October. The Ambassador is now on a study tour to Vitebsk Oblast. The recuperation programs will be available next year, too, the Ambassador said. “British families have been eagerly receiving Belarusian children for a long time. Many of them have established cordial and friendly relations and are looking forward to seeing each other again,” Rosemary Thomas said. In 2009 the Republic of Belarus and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland concluded an intergovernmental agreement on the recuperation of underage Belarusian children in Great Britain. The agreement was concluded via the exchange of diplomatic notes between the foreign ministries of Belarus and the UK. The document created a legal framework for the further implementation of recuperation programs in the United Kingdom. Belarus has signed similar agreements with over ten states.
