Since the beginning of the year, 18 road traffic accidents involving minors have been registered in the Vitebsk region, in which one child died and 21 were injured. Ten of them were passengers in vehicles. One accident was recorded in the district, in which a minor passenger was injured (the child was not wearing a seatbelt). In total, during the specified period, officers of the Department of State Automobile Inspectorate of Lepel District Department of Internal Affairs identified over 150 cases of violation of the rules for transporting young passengers.
In this regard, the State Automobile Inspectorate will hold a set of preventive measures "Car Seat – A Cool Place" on August 15, the main goal of which will be to prevent road traffic accidents involving minors.
Officers of the Department of State Automobile Inspectorate of Lepel District Department of Internal Affairs remind: car safety systems are not designed to protect children. Therefore, children under 12 years of age and under 150 centimeters in height must be transported in special restraint systems. Seatbelts should not be ignored.
It is prohibited to transport children in the front seat of a passenger car using child restraint systems that correspond to the child's weight and height, with the backrest facing the windshield, if the front seat has an airbag. The exception is when the frontal airbag mechanism is deactivated.
