The State Automobile Inspectorate reminds drivers that, in accordance with Part 2 of Article 18.16 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus, leaving the scene of a road traffic accident, in which the driver is involved, in cases where this is prohibited by legislative acts, provides for the imposition of an administrative penalty in the form of a fine ranging from 5 to 25 base units (from 184 to 925 rubles) or deprivation of the right to engage in certain activities for a period of up to 2 years.

In accordance with the Traffic Regulations, a driver involved in a road traffic accident must stop immediately and take no measures to change the position of the vehicle, turn on the hazard warning lights, and place a breakdown warning triangle on the road. Then, take measures to provide necessary assistance to the victim, call an ambulance, and if this is not possible, take measures to transport the victim to the nearest healthcare facility using one or more passing vehicles, and only in their absence is it permissible to leave the scene of the accident to transport the victim in the vehicle involved in the accident. However, in this case, the driver must first, in the presence of witnesses, record the position of the vehicles, traces, and objects related to the incident. This will help in the full and objective investigation of the causes of the incident. Next, it is necessary to record the surnames and addresses of the witnesses of the road traffic accident, report the incident to the police, and await the traffic police officers (except for settlements up to 800 euros).
