Upon arrival at the scene, rescuers observed smoke emanating from the window of a one-room apartment. After donning self-contained breathing apparatus, rescuers entered the apartment where they found the victims. The victims were carried out into the fresh air and handed over to medical personnel.
In the early morning of 27.10.2021, the owner of the apartment, born in 1965, died from his injuries at the Lepel Central District Hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The suspected cause of the fire is careless handling of fire (the responsible person is being identified).
The main cause of fires and fatalities is careless handling of fire while smoking.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations reminds that fire safety rules for smoking are not complicated, and everyone can follow them:
Do not smoke in bed or any other place intended for sleep;
Do not throw away matches and cigarette butts. They must be extinguished, and it must be ensured that the cigarette butt or match is not only not burning but also not smouldering;
Ash should be collected in ashtrays;
Ashtrays should be made of non-combustible material, and under no circumstances should paper bags, plastic bins, or other combustible items be used. When using thin-walled metal containers, a small amount of water should be added, as metal conducts heat well;
Do not smoke near flammable materials and combustible liquids;
Never smoke while intoxicated.
It is prohibited to throw unextinguished cigarettes and matches from windows, balconies of apartment buildings, into refuse chutes, rubbish containers, bins, or receptacles on the adjacent territory.
Remember, fire is merciless. People's carelessness and negligent handling of fire have the most unpredictable consequences.
