The State Automobile Inspectorate will strengthen control on the roads, paying special attention to identifying intoxicated road users. Traffic police patrols will be deployed near entertainment venues and retail outlets, primarily those operating 24/7, to prevent instances of intoxicated drivers operating vehicles.
Driving a car is a very active process that requires concentration. To control the movement of the vehicle and the situation on the road, to assess it in a timely manner and react correctly, a person uses not just individual organs, but entire systems. At the forefront of the driver's most insidious enemies, which leave them vulnerable to potential danger, is alcohol.
A driver's reliability is directly dependent on qualities such as discipline, moral and emotional stability, endurance, self-control, and a sense of responsibility, which can be nullified under the influence of alcohol. A small dose of alcohol is enough to negatively alter a person's perception of reality, as well as their mental and physiological abilities. At the same time, an intoxicated person believes they have become more agile and quicker. The more they have consumed, the stronger and more persistent this opinion becomes. It is extremely difficult to convince a drunk person otherwise, and they themselves are incapable of realistically assessing their condition.
As of today, the Republic of Belarus has very strict penalties for drivers who have driven a vehicle while intoxicated. Thus, if the exhaled air of the offender contains from 0.3 to 0.8 per mille of alcohol, the driver faces a penalty in the form of a fine of 100 base units and deprivation of the right to drive for a period of three years. If this indicator is exceeded, the fine will be 200 base units with deprivation of the right to drive for 5 years. The same penalty threatens the driver in case of refusal to undergo examination in the established manner or consumption by the driver of alcoholic, low-alcohol beverages or beer, narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues, toxic or other intoxicating substances, after committing a road traffic accident in which he is a participant, before undergoing examination. And in the event that the driver, within a year after the imposition of an administrative penalty for the same violations, again gets behind the wheel while intoxicated, he faces criminal liability.
The State Automobile Inspectorate urges drivers to refrain from driving vehicles while intoxicated. The presence of alcohol intoxication in a driver affects their decision-making speed and behavior on the road, thereby endangering not only their own life but also the lives of other road users.
