A new telephone fraud scheme has been recorded in Vitebsk, where criminals pose as polyclinic employees and, under the pretext of booking an appointment with a doctor, extort personal data from citizens, and then money.
The operational officer of the cybercrime counteraction department of the Oktyabrsky District Department of Internal Affairs, Police Major Ksenia Berezovskaya, explained how the fraudsters operate:- Criminals create fake websites that look like official resources of medical institutions. On such websites, they offer appointment booking services, ask to fill out forms with personal data, and even demand prepayment for booking a consultation, - says the operational officer. – A classic scam scheme where fraudsters call citizens, posing as employees of medical institutions or insurance companies. They inform about the need to confirm an appointment with a doctor or offer "special conditions" for receiving medical services, while demanding passport details or card information, - says Ksenia Berezovskaya.
According to the law enforcement officer, criminals may use popular messengers and social networks to send messages with various offers. These messages can look very convincing, which misleads people.
