28 August, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. Farmers in the Vitebsk region have harvested over 80% of their grain areas, as reported to BELTA by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
As of 28 August, a total of 398.9 thousand hectares of grain have been harvested in the region, which is 81.7% of the planned area. Farms in Gluboksky and Chashniksky districts have less than 4% of their areas remaining to complete the harvest, while Dokshitsky district has 7.6% left. Beshenkovichsky, Verkhnedvinsky, Vitebsky, Lepelsky, Orshansky, Polotsky, Postavsky, Toločinsky, and Sharkovshchinsky districts have harvested over 80% of their areas.
The region has threshed 1.230 million tons of grain with an average yield of 30.8 centners per hectare. Farmers in Beshenkovichsky (33.4 centners/ha), Verkhnedvinsky (36.5 centners/ha), Gluboksky (31 centners/ha), Dubrovensky (30.8 centners/ha), Miorsky (33.4 centners/ha), Orshansky (35 centners/ha), Chashniksky (34.2 centners/ha), and Sharkovshchinsky (32.3 centners/ha) districts are yielding over 30 centners per hectare.
The harvest campaign in the Vitebsk region continues to be hampered by frequent rains, which negatively affect the pace of work and the quality of the harvested crops.
Alongside grain harvesting, farmers in the region are actively engaged in other agricultural activities. As of 28 August, 81% of flax areas have been pulled in the region. 242 hectares of buckwheat have been harvested, yielding 323 tons (average yield of 13.3 centners/ha). 7.7 thousand hectares of spring rapeseed have been harvested (22% of the area, yielding 10 thousand tons). 244.9 thousand tons of straw have been procured (30.6% of the target). The application of glyphosate-containing preparations, mineral and organic fertilizers for winter crop sowing, and the second cutting of grasses (67.2% of the target mown) are ongoing. Hay (171 thousand tons), haylage (228.7 thousand tons), and silage (107.7 thousand tons) are being procured. Currently, there are 15.98 centners of feed units per conventional head of cattle.
