On October 8, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Farmers in the Vitebsk region have harvested more than half of the corn acreage, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
As of October 8, 52.1 thousand hectares of this crop have been mown in the region, or 54.9% of the acreage, with a daily increase of 2%. The highest pace is maintained by Braslavsky (88% of acreage harvested), Gorodoksky (87.9%), Dokshitsky (81.8%), Polotsky (89.6%), and Rossonsky (89.3%) districts. The total gross yield of green mass, including that used for feed, in the region amounted to about 1.3 thousand tons with an average yield of 248.1 centners per hectare. The highest corn yield is noted in Gluboksky (312.2 centners/ha), Polotsky (294.7 centners/ha), as well as in Liozno and Miory (289.9 centners/ha each) districts. Over 250 centners per hectare are harvested by agricultural workers in Beshenkovichi, Verkhnedvinsk, Vitebsk, Dokshitsy, Dubrovno, and Chashniki districts. The lowest yields are in Braslavsky (187.1 centners/ha) and Gorodoksky (182.8 centners/ha) districts.
Agricultural workers are paying serious attention to increasing the fodder base for livestock for the inter-season period. Thus, currently, 967.8 thousand tons of fodder units have been prepared in the Vitebsk region, or 67.2% of the target, including 1.8 million tons of hay, 2.3 million tons of haylage, and about 1.1 million tons of silage. As of October 8, there are 20.8 centners of fodder units (f.u.) per conventional head of cattle, including 20.37 centners of f.u. for public stock.
