Currently, agricultural producers are actively sowing corn, for which 120 thousand hectares have been allocated in the region this year. The work is ahead of the 2019 figure, although the area for this crop has increased by 10 thousand hectares. The expansion is due to plans to obtain corn for grain. A total of 80 thousand hectares have been sown as of the morning of May 14. "With this scope of work, in agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, we plan to fully complete it by May 25. This deadline is due to the introduction into crop rotation of areas previously occupied by winter cruciferous and strip crops with rye, in order to prevent these lands from lying fallow," noted Sergey Egorov.

The pace of work by the rural workers is determined by weather conditions. For example, some time ago, when the weather was fine, 7-8 thousand hectares were sown daily. Now, due to periodic rains, this figure has decreased to 3.5-4 thousand.

Among other important spring concerns of agricultural producers, the head of the department mentioned applying organic matter to the fields, plowing the soil, planting open-ground vegetables, millet, and buckwheat. The latter will occupy 350 hectares this year. Its traditional sowing is mainly carried out by farms in the southern districts, where about 20-30 hectares are allocated for this crop.
