The elections of members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the fifth convocation have concluded in the region, reports a BELTA correspondent. Senators were elected by secret ballot at a meeting of deputies of basic-level local councils. 694 deputies of local councils out of 838 elected participated in it. Along with the chairman of the regional executive committee, the right to represent the region in the upper house of parliament has been entrusted to the director of the enterprise "State Construction Expertise for the Vitebsk Region" Nikolai Konevalov, the chairman of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee Natalya Kochanova, the well-known Belarusian businessman, owner of the enterprise "Marko" Nikolai Martynov, the chief physician of the Orsha Central Polyclinic Vladimir Plytkevich, the rector of the Vitebsk State University Alexander Solodkov, the general director of the Vitebsk Broiler Poultry Farm Anna Shareiko, and the general director of "Vitebskoblgaz" Petr Shershnev. Of the eight elected deputies who are members of the Council of the Republic, four were already senators. Nikolai Konevalov is a member of the Communist Party of Belarus. The presidium of the regional council of deputies will send the documents on the election results to the Central Election Commission within two days after the meetings. The election results will be finalized no later than October 5 inclusive. By this time, the registration of the elected members of the Council of the Republic will also take place.
