"The campaign will run until September 25. Its main goal is the timely prevention and prophylaxis of road traffic accidents involving pedestrians, especially children," the traffic police department said.
During the campaign, traffic police inspectors, public security police officers of territorial internal affairs bodies, servicemen of internal troops, cadets of educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, members of voluntary patrols, and other interested parties will work at unregulated pedestrian crossings during peak hours and at night, as well as at sections of roads and streets in populated areas most at risk of pedestrian knockdowns.
In addition, all accident-prone sections of roads and streets will be inspected for lighting and the availability of necessary technical means for pedestrian traffic organization. "Extensive explanatory work and preventive measures are planned. In work collectives and among children, traffic police officers will once again explain the causes of typical road traffic accidents and remind recommendations for safe behavior when crossing the roadway and using pedestrian crossings," the department added.
Over the past 8 months, 380 road traffic accidents have occurred at pedestrian crossings in Belarus, of which 333 incidents were due to violations of pedestrian crossing rules. Children were involved in 60 road traffic accidents at designated pedestrian crossings.-0-
