From March 25 to April 3, 2022, the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Republic of Belarus will hold a nationwide preventive campaign to prevent road traffic accidents involving motorcycles.
The beginning of the warm season traditionally marks the appearance of a large number of motorcyclists, moped and scooter riders on the roads. At the same time, unskilled riding of two-wheeled vehicles and inattention of car drivers lead to accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles.
Last year alone, 176 accidents occurred on the territory of the republic due to the fault of motorcycle drivers, in which 24 people died, and 176 were injured.
State Automobile Inspectorate officers will organise preventive operations in settlements and adjacent roads, aimed at preventing and suppressing traffic rule violations by motorcycle drivers, using overt, covert, and mixed traffic control methods, including the use of official motorcycles available to traffic police units.
No less attention will be paid to preventive and educational work to improve the discipline and riding culture of both leaders and participants of official motorcycle clubs and movements, and individual owners of two-wheeled vehicles.
The main duty of a motorcycle driver is to obtain a driving licence of the appropriate category and to wear a motorcycle helmet, as well as protective clothing. To avoid trouble on the road, it is necessary, first and foremost, to master driving skills in various road conditions, observe speed limits, manoeuvring rules, and be extremely attentive and cautious. Practice shows that a second's loss of vigilance on the road can lead to an accident with severe consequences.
In turn, car drivers, when making a turn, U-turn, or any other manoeuvre, must ensure that there is no motorcyclist and must use their turn signals!
