The Ministry of Internal Affairs' special comprehensive event "Attention - Children!" started today in Belarus, reports BELTA.
The campaign, which will run until September 5, is being held in connection with the end of summer holidays and the start of the academic year. The aim is to prevent and avert road traffic accidents involving children.
During the special events, vehicle traffic in daylight hours must be carried out with dipped headlights switched on to attract the attention of children and all road users.
Public security police officers, educators, and parents will join forces to ensure children's safety. A number of preventive measures are planned. Competitions, quizzes, film and video lectures, and sports and educational activities are designed to remind children of the need to observe safe road behaviour rules.
Special attention will be focused on preventive work with parents. Police officers will visit work collectives, explain to adults the causes and consequences of road traffic accidents involving children, remind them of the rules for safely transporting minors, their responsibility for traffic violations, and the importance of setting a personal example of correct and safe road behaviour.
The prevention of child road traffic injuries before the start of the academic year will also be the focus of the Unified Road Safety Day, which is traditionally held on the last Friday of each month. This time, on August 26, it will be held under the slogan "The bell calls, the road obliges!".
