The Great Victory was forged at a high price, and its main shield was love for the Motherland and the unity of the people. This opinion was expressed by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin, at a solemn rally dedicated to Victory Day.

A festive procession with banners, portraits of war heroes and relatives who participated in the battles for the liberation of the Fatherland, marched through the streets of Vitebsk from Lenin Square to Victory Square. Veterans, youth, representatives of work collectives, city and regional authorities paid tribute of memory and respect to the generation of victors, to the fallen soldiers who gave their lives on the battlefield for a strong, bright, and prosperous Belarus.

"The true scale of fascist aggression is impossible to accept and come to terms with. No diaries, documents, or chronicles can convey what people endured. Our people gave a worthy rebuff to the enemy; battles were fought on the region's territory for 1418 days and nights. More than 120,000 of its residents fought at the fronts; Vitebsk region lost every third person. Our compatriots did not falter. Love for their land, for the Motherland, and the unity of the people became the main shield of the Great Victory," emphasized the head of the region.
