Events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders are intended to emphasize once again that Belarusians remember history and are proud to be heirs of the victors. This was stated to journalists by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin.

"To emphasize that we remember history, are proud of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, and will strive not to disgrace their memory, to carry the Banner of Victory high," - the head of the northern region outlined the goal of holding the events.

The events will be vibrant and large-scale. "The region will celebrate colourfully. In addition to "Slavianski Bazaar" and a large number of cultural events, concerts, and festivals, there is also the Forum of Regions - a huge event that will also be a bright stroke in the portrait of the Vitebsk region. And it so happened that the Forum of Regions coincides with the city's anniversary - the 1050th anniversary of Vitebsk. This entails certain obligations. On the same dates, the region will celebrate the 80th anniversary of liberation from the Nazi invaders. Therefore, the events will be mass, I hope, cosy and memorable for all residents and guests," - emphasized Alexander Subbotin.

Participants of the meeting, as explained by the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee before its start, will also discuss the holding of the anniversary "Victory Breakthrough". "This is a landmark event. One of the largest partisan battles. It also celebrates its 80th anniversary, and a bright, memorable event needs to be held in the Ushachi District. Of course, there is the "Kurgan Druzhby" (Mound of Friendship), where veterans, underground fighters, and those who participated in the liberation of our land will gather for the 65th time," - said Alexander Subbotin.

Despite the beginning of spring, the city has already come to life: road works are being carried out more intensively, construction work is underway - the "Vitebsk" hotel, the Summer Amphitheatre, avenues, Victory Square, and so on. Everything will be transformed for the Forum of Regions.

"Despite the fact that the forum will take place on Thursday and Friday, the main thing we are doing is continuing all expositions and events until Saturday. And on Saturday, in a broad, but family circle, we will celebrate our holiday, say thank you, and remember our heroes, marking these wonderful dates: the anniversary of the city and the liberation," - concluded the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

Today, the regional organizing committee is discussing the preparation and holding of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders and the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.
