And this concerns not only drivers. Unfortunately, intoxicated pedestrians and cyclists also pose a danger. Since the beginning of November alone, 3 pedestrians and one cyclist have died on the roads of the Vitebsk region. For example, on the evening of November 9, near the village of Glinišče, Polotsk district, a 32-year-old driver of a "Volkswagen Crafter" hit a man born in 1978, who suddenly stepped onto the roadway outside a pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian died at the scene from his injuries. Experts found alcohol in the deceased's blood. And on the evening of November 3, on the 43rd km of the "Polotsk-Miory-Braslav" highway, a 44-year-old cyclist died under the wheels of a "Volkswagen". He was also intoxicated.
An intoxicated person on the road is primarily dangerous to themselves. "Under the influence" drinks create a feeling of euphoria. But at the same time, attention is dulled and absentmindedness appears. As a result, an ill-considered step or cycling ride directly into the path of a car. Drivers, in such cases, do not have time to react to the sudden appearance of a person on the roadway.
The State Automobile Inspectorate of the Vitebsk region appeals to all road users! If you see an intoxicated pedestrian, cyclist, or driver on the roadway, please report it by calling 102. Your call could save someone's life!
Alcohol and driving do not mix!
