8 May, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova – BELTA/. An Alley in honour of the Great Victory will be established today in the agro-town of Novka, Vitebsk district, the Vitebsk District Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.

It is planned to plant 25 trees near the local community centre in honour of the Great Patriotic War veterans whose lives were connected with Vitebsk district. The names of the heroes will be inscribed on plaques to be attached to each tree. Schoolchildren, representatives of public organisations, authorities, local enterprises, and Great Patriotic War veterans will participate in the establishment of the alley.

"This event is of great patriotic significance. Currently, 9 Great Patriotic War veterans reside within the territory of the Novka rural council. All of them have been invited to the alley establishment ceremony. The younger generation will have an opportunity to communicate with the soldiers of Victory, of whom, unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer each year. Such meetings are remembered for a long time. And the named trees will remind new generations of Belarusians of the immortal feat of their grandfathers," the District Executive Committee emphasised.

The establishment of the alley will be the central event of today's festive activities in Vitebsk district. The programme also includes a rally and a celebratory concert with the participation of amateur groups.-0-
