"Hello, we are looking for talent"

Annually, a competition is held among the first-year students of the agricultural technical college, modelled after the popular Soviet TV show "Hello, we are looking for talents". The first to take the stage were students from group 242 – future land reclamation specialists. The audience was amused by a fairy tale adapted to modern life – "The Golden Fish".

The young actors' excitement and slight shyness worked in their favour, adding a special charm. Excerpts from student life, "There will be no exam" and "The exam will still happen", clearly conveyed the mood... through songs. Although one of the characters in Leonid Gaidai's film said, "An exam is always a celebration for me, professor," the reality is often quite different. The students reflected their feelings, achieving a comical effect with Enigma's well-known, mournful song "Dorime". Future builders distinguished themselves not only with their performances. Tatiana Sukhavilo – the group's strongest voice – immersed the audience in a calm and pleasantly melancholic atmosphere with the love song "Angel's Wings", thus giving them a break from the humour. For "dessert", they prepared an original act, "A Guy at the City Disco", where Maxim Maksimenko performed a breakdance routine to thunderous applause. Group 243 presented a rival dancer – Sizuk Valera. The young man shone in the tectonic genre – he moved like a plasticine figure, in some ways even resembling the famous Michael Jackson, and at the end, he said "I love you" in sign language. In a short time, the newcomers not only became friends but even formed duets. Nadezhda Fomina and Elena Stepanova sang "Tell me, what is love", and a surprise was the unexpected appearance of Valera, who had performed earlier, and who, in youth slang, was "spot on". It remained a mystery whether it was improvisation or a pre-planned move.

The students mastering the specialty "Water Supply, Drainage, and Water Resources Protection" literally added light – a solo song was accompanied by a romantic candle dance.

The group from the "Technical Support for Melioration and Water Management Works" department "bribed" the jury before even starting their concert program. Curator Ekaterina Timoshkova prepared booklets with announcements and the names of the performers, which allowed the judging panel to draw initial conclusions. Meanwhile, students from "Repair and Maintenance Production in Agriculture" challenged the audience by asking for two volunteers. Enthusiasts were found, but the smiles on their faces turned into bewilderment – they were asked to repeat the tongue-twister "Once upon a time there were three Chinese..." – they only remembered four words, as did everyone else present. The ringleader, however, continued to demonstrate his speaking skills as if he had dreamed of a career as a radio or TV presenter before entering college.

It was not easy to determine the winners, however, based on the total score for various nominations, first place went to group 246, second to group 241, and third to group 243.
