12 June, Minsk /BELTA correspondent/. There should be no politics in the application of amnesty, stated the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko today at a meeting on the issue of amnesty for certain categories of persons who have committed crimes, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. The Head of State emphasized: "We are carrying out an amnesty in our state and for our society. This is both a signal to society and an encouragement to prisoners. There should be no politics involved." Alexander Lukashenko recalled that when preparing the draft law on amnesty, he demanded a very objective, fair approach, devoid of any personal ambitions or protectionism. "Everything must be honest. To achieve this, criteria must be defined. We must act according to these criteria: some will fall under the amnesty based on these criteria, or their sentence term should be reduced. And it is absolutely unacceptable to "force" people who should not be released, including for some political reasons," the President believes.-0-
