February 5, Minsk /BELTA/. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko sent greetings to the members of the Belarusian sports delegation at the XXII Winter Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi. BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Head of State.
Alexander Lukashenko noted that twenty years have passed since Belarus was first represented by an independent team at the Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway, where Belarusian athletes won two silver medals, opening the account of Olympic awards.
"Sport is chosen by courageous, determined and strong-spirited people who are capable of continuing the glorious traditions and defending the sporting honour of our country in a fierce struggle," the greetings read. "Participation in the Olympic Games is a significant event, preceded by meticulous work and thorough preparation by both athletes and relevant organisations. Every detail has been considered and done – now all that remains is for each of you to make an effort to ensure successful performances at the Olympic competitions."
"I am convinced that you are the best representatives of Belarusian sport, capable of showing your will, skill and perseverance in achieving your goals in the Olympic arenas," the President emphasized. -0-
