5 March, Minsk /Vladimir Matveev – BELTA/. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has instructed the government to develop a clear and concise system for supporting large families. The Head of State announced this today at a ceremony presenting state awards to Belarusian women, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. "The government has been instructed at the beginning of this year, in connection with the financial difficulties of last year, to develop a normal, clear, and understandable system for supporting large families," said Alexander Lukashenko. "This assistance must be specific, targeted, and we will implement it in the near future. Housing will be the top priority, so that large families, both in rural areas and in cities, have a roof over their heads." The President emphasized that assistance to large families should be a priority in the state's activities. "It should not be spread too thin. I believe that large families should be supported in the most important aspects and at the moment when it is needed. This is the moment of a child's birth," said the Belarusian leader. "First and foremost, we need large families to have a roof over their heads – this is the main thing. A family must have a home. And if the home is on a plot of land, with ten to fifteen hundred square meters, they will be self-sufficient and raise normal children," believes the Head of State. Regarding healthcare, Alexander Lukashenko noted that Belarus has now reached the highest levels in the world in terms of childbirth assistance and childcare. "If the parents are not negligent, a child cannot die. We can save anyone," the President noted. However, according to the Head of State, while providing state support, it is necessary to maintain the right balance. "When helping, one must always seek the golden mean, so that this assistance does not detach parents from working for their children. In the past, no one helped anyone, and families had no less than 6-7 children. And then all parents cared for their children. They raised them and brought them up as hardworking people," noted Alexander Lukashenko. Alexander Lukashenko named ensuring the demographic security of the state as a priority task. "If we do not have a sufficient population, we will never hold onto this land in the center of Europe, which everyone covets. Because it is a delectable piece of our planet. And it can only be held thanks to people – the population. Therefore, demographic security is very important," emphasized the President.
