11 October, Minsk /BelTA/. During his working visit to China on 10 October, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko visited the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The Head of State visited the national pavilions of Belarus and China, BelTA was informed by the press service of the Belarusian leader.
While visiting the National Exhibition of China, the President took part in the solemn ceremony of the symbolic opening of the Belarusian-Chinese Technopark in the city of Changchun.
The initiative to create the technopark was put forward by the State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus in November 2009 to expand scientific and technical cooperation programs with the People's Republic of China. This project is being implemented in the high-tech production zone of the city of Changchun. About 15 enterprises within this zone have long-standing stable ties with Belarusian scientific and innovation organizations and regularly participated in scientific and technical cooperation programs. For example, joint projects include the creation of an enterprise for the production of medical laser equipment and an agreement on the establishment of a joint venture for the production of high-precision electric motors. In the first stage, about 30 hectares of land have been allocated for the project to construct office and production facilities, with a possibility of allocating another 30 hectares in the future.
As noted during the opening ceremony by the Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus, Igor Vovtov, the creation of the technopark signifies a significant breakthrough in the scientific and technical cooperation between the two countries. It will serve as a platform for working on joint projects and further promoting products not only to the Chinese market but also to neighboring countries. The technopark's activities will focus on the development of electronic and laser technologies, agro-industrial and biotechnologies, and others. A similar technopark is planned to be opened in Belarus for the creation of high-tech, energy-intensive, and science-intensive technologies. This is a very promising area of cooperation for both countries.
Alexander Lukashenko toured the exhibits of the National Pavilion of China. The President ascended to the 12th floor of the pavilion, where a presentation film about China was shown. In the "Land of Hope" hall, Alexander Lukashenko watched the demonstration video "Under One Roof." He then left an entry in the Book of Honour. As a souvenir, he was presented with a model of the National Pavilion of China.
The National Pavilion of China "Crown of the East" is located in the centre of the EXPO park. Its height is 63 m, and the total area of the complex is 70 thousand sq. m. The design concept of the "Crown of the East" reflects the spirit of Chinese culture. The main pavilion combines traditional Chinese elements.
The Head of State also visited the National Pavilion of Belarus, where he familiarised himself with its exhibition, and inspected the range of Belarusian products sold in the souvenir shop. As the shop assistants noted, Belarusian linen is very popular among the Chinese.
Next to the National Pavilion of Belarus are the pavilions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, opposite are the pavilions of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Portugal, and nearby there is a concert venue for performances by creative groups and a pedestrian alley. The slogan of the Belarusian exposition at the exhibition is "City - Treasure", symbolising a treasury of national cultural values, achievements in science, creativity and production. The facade of the Belarusian pavilion building depicts the theme of urban life in the four seasons. The main compositional element of the interior space is two video sequences - "clean air" and "clean water", which are the main treasures of our cities. Films about six regional centres and six small towns, representing unique cultural value, are shown on 12 screens. The pavilion introduces the spiritual and natural wealth of Belarus. It also features an exhibition of works by famous Belarusian artists and works by emerging masters. A film about Belarus, its prominent representatives, historical sites and memorable events is shown on four large monitors. In the souvenir shop, one can purchase folk crafts, printed materials and DVDs about Belarus, stamps, commemorative coins, watches, and items made of linen and porcelain. Every month, folk creative groups from all regions and Minsk perform in the pavilion. During the operation of the National Pavilion of Belarus, it was visited by about 5 million people.
The World Expo "EXPO-2010" is being held in Shanghai from May 1 to October 31, 2010. 192 states and 54 international organizations are participating in it. The theme of the exhibition is "Better City - Better Life", demonstrating the efforts of each state to create the most comfortable living environment for urban populations. "EXPO-2010" is conceived by the organizers as the largest world exhibition in history in terms of area, number of visitors, and number of participants. The exhibition is also intended to confirm the city's status as the largest business center in Asia. It is expected that more than 70 million people will visit the exhibition during its entire operation.
After visiting the World Expo "EXPO-2010", Alexander Lukashenko travelled from Shanghai to Beijing. It is expected that on October 11, the head of the Belarusian state will meet with the Chairman of the PRC Hu Jintao. The President will also take part in the opening ceremony of the assembly production and service center of the joint venture "LLC "AVIC-BelAZ Mining Machines". In addition, a number of bilateral documents will be signed by members of the official delegation.
As a result of the visit of the President of Belarus to China in 2005, trade between the two countries sharply intensified, and after the visit in 2008, credit and investment cooperation did.
