On April 26, Narovlya / Alina Grishkevich - BELTA /. Alexander Lukashenko, answering a question from a BELTA correspondent about why the President of Belarus did not attend the events in Kyiv dedicated to the anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy, advised to seek an answer from the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, BELTA correspondent reports. "Ask Yanukovych this question - why the Belarusian President is not present at their events," said Alexander Lukashenko. "Ask them. Unfortunately, the current leadership of Ukraine has enough meanness." The President emphasized: "I am not going to impose myself on anyone. And I am not going to be some kind of yes-man to any president, neither to one nor the other." Alexander Lukashenko commented on the statements of Jose Barroso regarding the fact that if Lukashenko comes to the international conference on Chernobyl issues in Kyiv, then he will not go there. "As for such goats as Barroso, well, there was some Barroso in Portugal, they kicked him out and arranged him in the European Commission. I pay less attention to what some European officials blurt out," said Alexander Lukashenko. The President stressed that, by tradition, on the anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, he visits the most affected regions. "These are sacred days for me. On these days, I am always here, as I promised the people. Yes, it may be convenient to lay a wreath and leave, but I need to work, to see with my own eyes what else needs to be done here. If I stop coming here, people will get lost," said the President. -0-
