August 5, Minsk /BELTA/. The Head of State Alexander Lukashenko will hold a meeting today on the development of Belarus's scientific sphere. BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Belarusian leader.

In 2012, scientific research and development were carried out in 530 organizations by more than 30,000 employees. Almost a third of them work in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. About 12% are in higher education institutions, and 52% are in sectoral structures, including subordinate commercial organizations.

Expenditures from the republican budget for financing scientific, scientific-technical, and innovation activities last year amounted to almost Br1.3 trillion (the plan for 2013 is about Br2.2 trillion). At the same time, domestic expenditures on scientific research and development from all sources of funding in 2012 exceeded Br3.3 trillion.-0-
