President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko received a report from the Chairman of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee Boris Batura on December 5. This was reported to BelTA correspondent by the press service of the Belarusian leader. The Governor reported to the Head of State on the commencement of work on the implementation of his instruction, according to which one farm in each agricultural enterprise of the republic is to be modernized with modern production technologies next year. "I think this is a feasible task. Now the government is proposing some forms of support in the form of roofing slate, cement, and timber. We have all of this. We can significantly reduce costs," the President noted. "But there must be specific volumes everywhere. Everything will be under strict control to prevent any theft or diversion of resources for other purposes." According to Boris Batura, documentation is currently being intensively developed, and the main focus of the farm modernization work will be on the winter period when people are less busy in agriculture. Alexander Lukashenko considers it necessary in the near future to focus on the active development of the Minsk and Vitebsk regions in particular, through which it is planned to achieve a significant increase in the country's economy as a whole. "We will assist the Minsk region on a priority basis, because from here we must obtain additional volumes of agricultural and industrial products and services. We will focus on the Minsk region, without forgetting, as a second priority, the Vitebsk region, in order to uplift the country through these two regions," said the Head of State, noting that the other regions, for various reasons, have moved ahead in their development. The Governor of the Minsk region also reported to the President on attracting investments to the region, including in agriculture. The Head of State once again emphasized that Belarus, and the Minsk region in particular, has sufficient land that can be used for investment projects without taking arable land out of agricultural circulation. Boris Batura also informed that the Minsk region is fulfilling the main qualitative forecast indicators this year. Growth in gross regional product (107% compared to the 2010 level instead of 109%) and agricultural production (105%) are expected to be slightly lower than forecast. The region will also commission about 1.1 million square meters of housing during the year (forecasted at 1.3 million).
