21 November, Minsk /BELTA correspondent/. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko considers the introduction of a common currency in the Eurasian Union to be possible. He stated this in an interview with the program "Vesti v subbotu" (News on Saturday) with Sergey Brilev of the "Russia" TV channel, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. The Belarusian head of state did not rule out the possibility of creating a common currency by analogy with the European Currency Unit (ECU), which was used in non-cash settlements. "We were talking precisely about the 'ECU'. We were not talking about the tenge, the Belarusian ruble, or the Russian one. Yes, some kind of transitional currency," said Alexander Lukashenko. At the same time, the President believes that the lack of thoughtfulness and calculation of options can lead to what is currently happening in the Eurozone. "Therefore, everything must be thought through. A house must be built starting with the foundation," noted the Belarusian head of state. Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that he has long spoken about the need to switch to national currencies in mutual settlements. "Let's use the Russian ruble. Why do we settle with you (Russia. - BELTA note) for energy resources, for raw materials in dollars? Let's switch to the Russian currency," suggested the Belarusian leader. "And today your President unequivocally supported this. And Nazarbayev says that yes, indeed, let's trade in national currencies, and we will use the 'American' less in our settlements." "Then why not introduce a settlement unit, as you called it, the ECU.
