20 July, Postavy /BelTA/. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko demands the creation of high value-added production facilities in Belarus. He set this task today while visiting Private Unitary Enterprise "Postavy Furniture Centre", BelTA correspondent reports.
Alexander Lukashenko believes that the construction of mini combined heat and power plants is a promising area, which can serve as a basis for creating new production facilities, in particular, wood drying complexes and full-fledged furniture manufacturing. "We do not need semi-finished products. We need to look into and stop the rampant practice of selling pallets somewhere. We must sell high value-added products," the Head of State stressed.
Private Unitary Enterprise "Postavy Furniture Centre" was established in 2003 on the basis of the woodworking enterprise of individual entrepreneur Anatoly Babichev, who currently heads it. The enterprise specialises in the production of solid and glazed door units made of glued pine wood and valuable wood species, as well as fuel pellets. The annual output of products is about 200 thousand door units. In the first five months of 2011, the enterprise generated over Br5.5 billion in net profit, with an export growth rate of 140.6% compared to the same period last year. The production facilities include two sawmills with a capacity of 80 thousand cubic meters per year, four woodworking shops, a finishing shop, a packaging shop, a fuel pellet production facility with a capacity of 12 thousand tons per year, a glass processing facility, and a workshop for manufacturing doors from valuable wood species. The enterprise is also equipped with a high-performance drying complex. With the commissioning of the pellet production shop in 2010, the enterprise has achieved waste-free wood processing. The enterprise exports 85% of all its manufactured products to Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Italy, Libya, and Azerbaijan. It holds a certificate of conformity of Belarusian and Russian standards.
Addressing the enterprise director, Alexander Lukashenko suggested diversifying production, as, in the President's opinion, there is demand for timber abroad today, but it might disappear tomorrow, so it is necessary to have another alternative production, or even two or three. In particular, Alexander Lukashenko considers participation in the development of the tourism industry promising. "The 'fifth column' criticized me for building a tourist facility with Kosinets. True, they filmed and posted online a different house than the one I even live in. But this facility – you can come, relax, take a bath, of course, for a fee, but not a large one. Tourist facilities need to be developed there. Rich people are asking to come here, ready to pay a thousand dollars a day. Let them write. Our job is to do. If foreigners come here, and they will gladly come here, they will be in high demand," said the Head of State, adding that Belarusian holiday resorts cannot meet the demand this year. "I haven't been there even once yet, they just criticize me. It's a good facility, we will develop it, we need to build another 10-15 houses there," the President noted. "Therefore, one should listen less and do more," the Head of State added. "When the 'fifth column' criticizes, consider that we are doing the right thing." -0-
