19 January, Minsk /BELTA/. The President of Belarus states the possibility of modernizing the country's political system. Alexander Lukashenko announced this in an interview with leading Chinese media on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and China, according to a BELTA correspondent. The Head of State believes it is necessary to react to changes in the international situation. "Therefore, we are currently studying certain global trends. And, of course, we will adapt and modernize our political system. We will hold parliamentary elections. And I think we need to pay serious attention to political reform, or the reform of our country's political system," the President noted. "We will proceed with this, although we do not have a catastrophe in this regard. But we must always be one step ahead of the processes that will occur. I am saying this for the first time, but I have been contemplating this issue for a long time and discussing these problems. And we will gradually move in this direction." At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko noted: "The main thing is to maintain stability, to give people the opportunity to live normally and express their opinions. The main thing is to give people the opportunity to preserve their fundamental rights, which they claim and are entitled to." -0-
