The severe frost that suddenly set in, unexpectedly struck on Epiphany, January 19, and continued in the following days, led to a sharp displacement of soil layers at a significant depth, which resulted in a water main break at the intersection of Shkolnaya and Kalinina streets, not far from the Ershov Gymnasium. Therefore, the employees of LKUVP ZhKG "Lepel" led by senior foreman Pavel Ermakovich promptly began to eliminate the consequences of the natural disaster, so that the water that broke through to the surface of the earth would not have time to flood the surroundings, freeze, and turn the approaches and entrances to the educational institution into a dangerous "ice rink". The task was set to restore the water supply to residential buildings, industrial and social facilities as quickly as possible.

An excavator, a loader, dump trucks, and other equipment were involved in eliminating the consequences of the accident. A water pipe break was found at a depth of several meters from the ground surface. A special coupling was installed and assembled at the site of the damage, which reliably restored the water flow to consumers. The water pipe was covered with dry sand, which will settle and compact on its own within a few days, after which the ground surface at this location will be leveled and, in the spring, after the warm days set in, asphalted.
