From November 24 to December 14, a large-scale information campaign will be held across the republic among the population regarding the effectiveness of using autonomous fire alarms (hereinafter referred to as AFAs), the necessity of their installation and timely maintenance.

In this regard, rescuers will organize daily visits to the households (apartments) of citizens in need of additional social protection (solitary and single elderly citizens, disabled persons, large families), focusing on the presence and proper functioning of AFAs.

Every year, thousands of fires occur throughout the Republic, claiming lives and causing significant property damage. And, of course, everyone would like to avoid such a situation in their life or at least minimize the consequences. Those who are genuinely concerned about safety install an autonomous fire alarm (AFA) in their homes.

Thanks to the activation of AFAs, 47 people, including 12 children, have already been saved in the first 10 months of 2025.

A fire in a house develops very rapidly, and the sooner a person receives a signal about a fire, the greater their chances of survival. This logical chain of thought can only be supplemented by the fact that it is the autonomous fire alarm that detects smoke, i.e., a fire in its early stage, which allows for quick evacuation and calling for help.

An autonomous fire alarm is a simple and effective device that automatically detects smoke and sounds an alarm, warning of impending danger. It operates on batteries, making it independent of the mains power supply. Installing alarms in every living room of a house is not only a sensible decision but also a mandatory precautionary measure.

Installing an alarm does not require special knowledge or skills. The package includes detailed instructions containing all the necessary information on installation, operation, and maintenance. AFAs do not spoil the interior; their mounting plate is fixed with screws, and the device itself is installed by turning it clockwise until it stops. For removal, simply turn the device counterclockwise. The alarm is powered by a single "Krona" type battery. It is recommended to clean the AFA from dust with a vacuum cleaner once a year and check its operability every month by pressing the test button.

A flashing red LED signal on the API housing indicates its proper functioning and standby mode.

If you hear an autonomous fire alarm:

  • Report the incident by calling 101 or 112.
  • Locate the source of smoke. If the fire is no larger than a football, attempt to extinguish it yourself. If the fire cannot be extinguished within one minute, evacuate immediately.
  • Assist the elderly, disabled, and children in leaving the danger zone.
  • Await fire crews at a safe distance.
