On November 28, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. The vehicle fleet of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee has been replenished with new equipment, reports BELTA correspondent.
The Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Vladimir Terentyev, ceremoniously presented the management of the regional internal affairs department with a certificate for 11 vehicles, which will be allocated to the State Automobile Inspectorate, the duty unit of the Internal Affairs Directorate, the Special Police Unit, and the Gorodok, Tolochin, Ushachi, Miory, Shumilino, Glubokoye, and Postavy District Internal Affairs Departments, and the Novopolotsk City Internal Affairs Department. He emphasized that at the beginning of 2013, another 10 vehicles will be purchased for the region's law enforcement officers. Thus, the vehicle fleet of the Internal Affairs Directorate will be almost completely updated.
"Thanks to the coordinated, efficient work of the internal affairs bodies, close cooperation established with local authorities, and the immense attention and efforts aimed at ensuring law and order and legality, a stable trend of crime reduction has been established in the region," emphasized Vladimir Terentyev, noting that over the past five years, the number of murders in the region has decreased by almost three times, robberies by more than three times, and hooliganism by 10 times.
The crime rate in the Vitebsk region for January-October of the current year decreased by 21% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 84.1 per 10,000 population (89.6 for the republic). Over 10 months, 10.2 thousand crimes were committed in the region. Compared to January-October 2011, the number of robberies (by 19.4%), assaults (by 5.1%), rapes (by 33.3%), hooliganism (by 47.9%), thefts of all types (by 19.7%), and fraud (by 37.6%) decreased. Fewer crimes were registered committed while intoxicated (by 8.4%), in groups (by 13.7%), repeatedly (by 19.3%), and by minors (by 19.2%).
"We cannot say that everything is completely fine. There is a serious problem related to the alcoholization of the population. It concerns us greatly, as every third crime today is committed while intoxicated. The issue of juvenile delinquency and some others requires attention. Nevertheless, the fact that citizens can now walk quite calmly day and night through the city streets is primarily due to the immense work of the police officers," noted the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee.-0-
