15 March, Minsk /Lyudmila Sats - BELTA/. The public's rush demand for currency in Belarus will soon subside. This was stated to BELTA correspondent by the Chairman of the Board of the National Bank, Pyotr Prokopovich, commenting on the current situation in the country's currency market. According to the head of the National Bank, the problems that exist in the currency market today are deliberately stoked by the media and the Internet. Information is periodically thrown in about devaluation, and this happens almost every day. It is in this way that unfounded rumors about the depreciation of the national currency appear. "Banks are meeting the demand for currency today. I think a few days will pass and people will calm down, the 'runs' on exchange offices will end," said Pyotr Prokopovich. As for the IMF's recommendations for a sharp devaluation, the head of the National Bank noted: "We are pursuing our own currency policy. We have no agreements with the IMF, no obligations to the fund. Our monetary policy is approved by the decree of the head of state, and we are working within the framework of this decree." -0-
