Alexander Lukashenko thanked Stefan Füle for personally coming to Belarus. "I think that despite all your convictions and prejudices, it is very useful for you to see the country with your own eyes. It is very important for me that you see all the processes taking place in Belarus with your own eyes," he said. The President of Belarus stressed that he is настроен (set) for an absolutely frank conversation: "I think we have something to talk about. We must listen to each other and try to understand." According to Alexander Lukashenko, the problems in relations with the EU are known. "And I can even say publicly that, unlike many public servants, I have no hopes. On the one hand, this is correct, objective: both you and others want to know who you are dealing with in the future, who will be the President of Belarus," he said. "On the other hand, I would like to simply warn you against excessive hopes and expectations: Belarus will follow its own path, whatever it may cost us. BELTA) once took the path to independence, sought friends who would ensure this independence and help it, so too will we act, ensuring our independence. I want you to understand that we will not fall, we will not crawl on our knees before anyone - neither before you (EU. - Ed. BELTA), nor before Russia, nor before America." The Belarusian leader called for abandoning double standards in relations and focusing on key mutually beneficial issues. "This is our sovereignty and security, this is the independence of our Belarus," he noted. "And we will do everything in the name of preserving this independence. We will not run around Europe, America, or Russia, taking money from you, playing the Russian fiddle and vice versa, as our so-called opposition members, who are very popular with some politicians in Europe, do – we will not do this."
