Belarus and Russia have agreed to coordinate actions on the international stage. This agreement was reached on November 26 in Minsk at a joint meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the collegium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, led by the heads of the foreign affairs agencies, Vladimir Makei and Sergey Lavrov. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the press service of the Belarusian foreign affairs agency.

"Following the event, a resolution of the joint meeting of the collegiums was adopted. The heads of the delegations signed a plan for consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia for 2021, which defines the key areas for further development of cooperation between the foreign affairs agencies of the two countries and the coordination of their actions on the international stage," the agency stated.

The participants of the meeting thoroughly reviewed current issues of Belarusian-Russian cooperation in various fields, the prospects for the development of bilateral interaction within integration associations and the expansion of mutual support on international platforms, and also exchanged assessments of the state of global and regional security.

Special attention was paid to the prospects for lifting restrictions on movement across the Belarusian-Russian border, taking into account the need for unconditional compliance with COVID-19 prevention measures.

During the event, various aspects of the relations between Belarus and Russia with the European Union, the participation of the two countries in UN peacekeeping operations, the prospects for involving the CSTO in UN peacekeeping activities, and coordination within the EAEU on harmonising integration processes in the Eurasian space in the interests of forming a Greater Eurasian Partnership were substantively discussed.

The focus of the discussion also included issues of cooperation in the field of information security and combating cybercrime, including on international platforms, such as the UN. The parties supported steps aimed at developing and adopting universal rules and norms of state conduct in cyberspace under the auspices of the UN.

Furthermore, the participants of the meeting confirmed the priority nature of joint work to counter the falsification of history and the glorification of Nazism.

The Belarusian side expressed gratitude for the political and informational support provided by Russia amidst external pressure on Belarus and attempts to destabilize the situation in our country. The parties declared their readiness to jointly counter any external interference in internal affairs.

The progress in implementing the Program of Coordinated Actions in the field of foreign policy of the states – participants of the Treaty on the Creation of the Union State for 2020-2021 was considered in detail, and steps for its further joint implementation were outlined.
