28 October, Dushanbe /Vladimir Matveev - BELTA/. Presidents of Belarus and Tajikistan Alexander Lukashenko and Emomali Rahmon signed in Dushanbe a treaty between the two countries on long-term trade and economic cooperation, reports BELTA correspondent. The heads of state also signed an interstate programme of long-term cooperation between Belarus and Tajikistan for 2011-2020. In addition, an intergovernmental agreement on labour activities of citizens of Belarus in Tajikistan and citizens of Tajikistan in Belarus was signed, as well as an agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Economy of Belarus and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan. Agreements were also signed between the relevant sectoral agencies of the two countries on cooperation in the field of emergency prevention, youth policy, culture and arts. Trade and economic relations between Belarus and Tajikistan show a positive trend. Over the past five years, seven meetings of the intergovernmental trade and economic commission have been held, with the next meeting scheduled to take place in Dushanbe this year. Interregional cooperation between regions, free economic zones of the two countries, as well as in the fields of science, healthcare, culture and education is developing intensively. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, the volume of bilateral trade between Belarus and Tajikistan has significantly increased in recent years: from $6 million in 2003 to $47.6 million in 2010. Last year, trade turnover between the countries increased by 4.2% compared to 2009. Exports grew by 21.9% to $42.1 million. Imports amounted to $5.5 million and decreased by 50.6%. The basis of Belarus's exports to Tajikistan included sugar, tractors, textile products, electrical equipment, fluorides, woodworking products, furniture, and medicines. Cotton, wool, dried fruits, aluminium, and other goods are supplied from Tajikistan to Belarus.
