Belarus and Turkey have agreed on quotas for permits for international road freight transport, BELTA was informed by the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The terms of cooperation in this area were discussed at the meeting of the Belarusian-Turkish Joint Commission on International Road Transport, which was held on 11-12 July in Ankara. "The parties noted the trend of increasing volumes of road freight transport between Belarus and Turkey. During the meeting, the Turkish side proposed to liberalize bilateral and transit transport for the subsequent development of road freight transport," the Ministry of Transport stated. Taking into account the needs of Belarusian international road carriers, the quota of permits for 2012 has been increased for each category. "Obtaining an additional number of permits for Belarusian international road carriers will allow them to meet their needs for operating in the Turkish market, as well as to increase the export of road transport services," the press service emphasized. "In addition, the parties agreed on a preliminary quota of permits for 2013, taking into account the increase for the current year." Issues of rail freight transport were also considered. The Belarusian side informed their Turkish colleagues about the transportation of goods by the "Viking" combined transport train and noted that with the involvement of the Turkish side in this project, the volume of freight traffic from Northern Europe towards the Mediterranean countries and the Persian Gulf will significantly increase. The Turkish side, in turn, spoke about new achievements in the road freight transport sector in the implementation of the digital tachograph system, the licensing system, the weight and dimension control system, including vehicle inspections.
