Belarus has been elected to the United Nations Economic and Social Council for 2012-2014, BELTA was informed by the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The last time Belarus was a member of this body was in 2006-2009. "Belarus's election to ECOSOC is evidence of the international community's recognition of the country's experience in socio-economic development and the national efforts undertaken to improve the standard of living in the country," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted. ECOSOC is the main UN body responsible for discussing international economic and social issues and developing recommendations on socio-economic policy for UN member states.-0-
