18 November, Minsk /BELTA correspondent/. Belarus has been elected to the Intergovernmental Council of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC Council) during the 37th session of the UNESCO General Conference. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
The IPDC Council consists of 39 members elected by the UNESCO General Conference in accordance with the principle of geographical balance. The Council analyses and evaluates the progress of the programme's implementation, assesses project proposals for their subsequent implementation in areas where joint efforts of the international community need to be strengthened.
This is the first time Belarus has joined the Council. This election testifies to Belarus's potential in the field of communication development.
The International Programme for the Development of Communication was established within UNESCO in 1980 to promote the development of mass media (media) by financing projects that meet the following priorities: promoting media pluralism and freedom of expression; training media professionals; developing public service media; using new technologies to enhance the effectiveness of independent and public media.-0-
