On October 18, Minsk /BelTA correspondent/. Belarus will not change its electoral legislation for the 2012 elections of deputies to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly. This was stated today by the President of the country, Alexander Lukashenko, during a meeting with the Chairperson of the Central Commission of Belarus for Elections and Republican Referendums, Lidia Yermoshina, BelTA was informed by the press service of the Head of State. "I would not consider options, as some are demanding from us today, for breaking electoral legislation. This is absolutely unacceptable on the eve of a political campaign," stressed the Head of State. The President agreed that much has been done in recent years to improve electoral legislation, especially within the framework of the requirements set for Belarus by some international organizations, in particular the OSCE. Belarus made significant changes on the eve of the elections of deputies to local councils in 2010, and, according to Lidia Yermoshina, a number of changes somewhat complicated the work of election commissions at the local level. "We strived for democratization, but it turned out that we complicated the lives of those people who are members of election commissions but are not politicized in any way," she said. -0-
