On November 16, Minsk / Olga Belyavskaya - BELTA /. Belarus remains a solvent country. This was announced today to journalists in Minsk by the head of the IMF mission in Belarus, Chris Jarvis, according to a BELTA correspondent. "I am absolutely confident that Belarus is a solvent country," the expert said. "Its external debt level remains low compared to other European emerging market countries." According to Chris Jarvis, the fact that the Belarusian authorities are trying to obtain loans on external markets is justified. At the same time, he noted that the issuance of Eurobonds by Belarus is one of the main successes achieved this year. At the same time, the IMF emphasizes the importance of maintaining the strength of basic economic policy in Belarus. "It is important that such a policy is strong, so as not to rely on external borrowing indefinitely," the expert added. According to Chris Jarvis, the primary task for Belarus is to reduce the current account deficit. For this, the country needs a good plan, he stressed. According to the expert, the Belarusian authorities have developed such plans as part of the draft program for socio-economic development for the next five-year period. "It is planned to completely eliminate the current account deficit, and, in our opinion, this plan is more ambitious than actually necessary for the Belarusian economy," he said. At the same time, the expert noted that a clear plan must also be developed to achieve this goal. "And in this regard, we have some doubts," he concluded. -0-
