Belarus plans to hold a forum on Sustainable Development Goals jointly with the Eurasian Economic Commission. This was announced by Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei today, speaking at the general debate of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, according to a BELTA correspondent.
Vladimir Makei noted that Belarus actively participates in various regional integration processes and has consistently advocated for partnership and compatibility of integration associations for several years. In 2020, as the presiding country of the Eurasian Economic Union, Belarus plans to host the first forum on Sustainable Development Goals in Minsk in conjunction with the EEC.
"This will help the countries - our partners in Eurasian integration - not only to synchronise their efforts and exchange experiences in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, but also to enable the Eurasian Economic Union region to speak with a unified, distinct voice in global debates on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, raising common issues while also advantageously highlighting the diversity of our states," the minister said.
According to him, Belarus proceeds from the premise that regional economic organisations should be most effectively involved in the efforts to implement the SDGs, promoting the coordination of economic policies of the member states of integration associations in the interests of sustainable development. "This will achieve a multiplier effect for national economies – the supporting framework of the entire system of regional and global sustainability," the diplomat noted.
