19 July, Minsk /BELTA/. Belarus advocates for closer cooperation between countries in science and technology, particularly in informatics. This was stated at a session of the UN Economic and Social Council by the representative of Belarus, Sergey Sergeev, BELTA reports with reference to the UN News Centre. He expressed concern that some states significantly lag behind others in the level of high-tech development. Advanced countries, in Sergey Sergeev's opinion, should share their experience and play a leading role in the exchange of scientific knowledge and advanced developments. Belarus is actively working to enhance its scientific and technical potential. The country is implementing a number of projects in the field of high technologies, including information and communication technologies. In terms of their development level, Belarus ranks 55th out of 161 countries, and in terms of their affordability, it ranks 27th. Sergey Sergeev stated that Belarus fully supports the activities of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development and appealed to the UN with a request to assist CIS countries in developing high technologies.-0-
