The joint commission of Belarus, Russia, and Latvia signed demarcation documents for the junction point of the state borders of the three countries in Nesvizh today. This was reported to the correspondent by the State Border Committee of Belarus. The joint commission was established specifically for the demarcation of the junction point by the governments of the three states. The chairman of the Belarusian side was Alexander Arkhipov, Head of the Border Delimitation and Demarcation Department of the State Border Committee; the Latvian side was represented by Irina Mangule, Director of the Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and the Russian side by Alexey Obukhov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The joint commission held six meetings, during which the procedure for carrying out the work was developed; the installation of the border sign and the determination of the coordinates of the border junction point and border posts of the border sign were organized, and the procedure for its maintenance, repair, or restoration was developed. The joint commission also took measures to ensure the stable position of the junction point on the ground by securing riverbeds near the junction point. After the documents signed today enter into force, Belarus will complete the establishment of the state border with Latvia. As noted by Alexander Arkhipov, the process of establishing the border with Latvia began in 1992 with the delimitation of the state border, and today, with the signing of the demarcation documents, this process has been completed. "Speaking in historical retrospect, the demarcation documents for the entire section of the Belarusian-Latvian border entered into force in 2009, but we still had the junction of the state borders with Latvia and Russia, which was not legally formalized internationally. Since the interests of three states intersect here, such junctions are regulated by the conclusion of separate agreements," he summarized.
