Belarus has improved its position in the Information and Communication Technology Development Index, the Ministry of Communications and Informatization informed a BELTA correspondent.

"The International Telecommunication Union has published the ICT Development Index (IDI) for 2024. The index measures progress towards the concept of universal and meaningful connectivity, defined as the ability for everyone to access the internet equally, affordably, anywhere, and anytime with minimal cost. Belarus has improved its position in seven out of nine indicators. For two indicators – the cost of a fixed broadband internet basket (as a percentage of gross national income per capita) and the number of mobile phone users (as a percentage) – our country achieved the maximum value. Belarus's IDI increased from 86.9 in 2023 to 88.5 in 2024, indicating significant progress in the development of information and communication technologies," the Ministry of Communications stated.

The study also revealed that 89.5% of Belarus's population uses the internet, and 89.5% of households have internet access at home. Furthermore, Belarus has high coverage of 3G and 4G/LTE networks (98.8%), and the number of mobile broadband subscriptions per 100 inhabitants reached 65.2. The average mobile broadband internet traffic per subscription in Belarus is 143.5 GB, and for fixed broadband, it is 1502.1 GB.

Belarus demonstrates low costs for mobile and broadband internet access: the prices for a mobile communication and voice services basket amount to 1.6% of GNI per capita, and for fixed broadband internet, it is 0.7%.

"These figures show that Belarus is confidently moving towards building a society where information technologies are accessible to everyone, creating conditions for further development and prosperity," the Ministry of Communications emphasized.
